Shrewsbury Painting and Decorating student to attend prestigious award final.
A Year 2 Painting & Decorating student at Shrewsbury College has been shortlisted for the prestigious Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year award.
Sam Clorley, who is also doing an Apprenticeship with JM Roberts of Wem said: ‘’Entering the competition has been a valuable opportunity and competing against students from across the country was a great experience. I am proud to have achieved the highest scoring second place in the heat at Liverpool and look forward to competing in the final.’’
Johnstone's Young Painter of the Year is a painting and decorating competition which launched in 2005 and celebrates young talent, promotes best practice and encourages young people to pursue a career in the decorating industry.
The overall winner will receive a package of prizes worth £2000 and will be crowned "Johnstone's Young Painter of the Year".
Richard Tart, Painting & Decorating Lecturer at Shrewsbury College said: ‘‘it’s been great for Sam to get to the final of the Johnstone’s competition, as it was a very high standard. Sam has shown some great skills and motivation to learn and represented the college in many competitions.
‘’These competitions give Sam and other students the chance to showcase their skills and be proud of what they achieve.’’
Sam added: ‘’I chose to do the Painting & Decorating course at Shrewsbury College because of its reputation and its convenient location. My apprenticeship employer, Jamie Roberts, also studied his Painting & Decorating course at Shrewsbury College and highly recommended it.’’
The finals of Johnston’s Young Painter of the Year award will take place at the Ricoh Arena Coventry, on November 19 and 20.
