Greater choice at Shrewsbury College
Making a decision between A Levels and a BTEC programme can be tough. That’s why Shrewsbury College is offering school leavers the opportunity to do both.
The College launched an exciting new curriculum earlier this year. “It will allow some full-time students to combine A Levels with a Level 3 Diploma programme and help them to gain even more marketable skills for future employment,” explained Principal of the College, Steve Wain.
“We are historically a vocational College, and this is still an important part of our work, so students can also opt to study an additional practical award alongside their main BTEC qualification. This could include combinations such as Computing and Business, or Travel & Tourism and Sport.”
The new flexible curriculum offers a range of choices for students to follow over two years, allowing them to create their own individual programme of study.
“We’re a friendly and inclusive College where students feel comfortable and gain the skills and confidence to go on to succeed in their chosen career,” added Mr Wain.
“I really enjoy College,” said Health & Social Care student, Laura Whittaker. “Unlike school everyone has the same mind-set as to where they want to be in the future, which creates a really encouraging environment to work in.”
Performing Arts student Nick Salmon added: “When I came to Shrewsbury College I felt like I fitted in and the College would help me to achieve what I wanted to. I’ve managed to secure a scholarship at the New York Film academy, which is a massive opportunity.”
There's still time to apply. Whatever your future plans are, Shrewsbury College’s new curriculum allows you to build a programme which is right for you, meets your needs, and helps you maximise your potential.
