College Academy will support tennis take-up

Shrewsbury College will launch a new Tennis Academy in September for students who have been inspired by Andy Murray’s Wimbledon success.

It is hoped that the new Academy will encourage College-wide participation in the sport and have a positive impact on academic achievement.

“The Tennis Academy will be open to all students and will run in conjunction with the Lawn Tennis Association,” explained Sport Tutor at the College, Sam Heseltine.

“It will provide students with the opportunity to learn a new sport and socialise with individuals from other subject areas. They will also have the opportunity to gain qualifications such as a UKCC Level 1 Coaching award.”

Students will be coached by experienced and qualified instructors from the Lawn Tennis Association and can opt to play recreationally, or compete at a county or regional level. Training will take place at the prestigious tennis courts of The Shrewsbury Club on Sundorne Road.

Shrewsbury College will also launch a Rugby Academy and a Football Academy in September. For more information, please call Sam Heseltine on 01743 342548.
