Bradley’s guitar project hits the right notes

A talented Shrewsbury College student has custom-built an electric guitar, which is reminiscent of Brian May’s infamous Red Special.

Bradley Hind, 19, has developed the one of a kind instrument over the past three years.

“I’ve made a lot of prototypes and it’s still a working progress,” explained Bradley, who recently completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Technology at Shrewsbury College. “I’ve found the project difficult, but really rewarding. This particular guitar is for a friend at College.”

Queen guitarist Brian May built the Red Special with his father in the early 1960s. The guitar would define May’s signature style as it was purposely designed to give feedback.

Bradley’s version of the instrument was manufactured from refined oak, which he cut and shaped himself. Like the Red Special, the guitar has been wired in an unusual way to give a more complex and richer sound.

Bradley’s handiwork has helped him to secure a place at Bath Spa University, where he will study Creative Music Technology in September.
