Student chefs ready for regional challenge
A trio of Shrewsbury College Hospitality & Catering students will go head to head with young chefs from across the country this Friday [18 January] as part of the prestigious Brakes Student Chef Team Challenge.
Simon Davis, Karl Hignett and Liam Wheatherhead successfully secured a spot in the Midlands & East Anglia regional heat of the competition following a record number of entries from more than 80 UK colleges.
The Brakes Student Chef Team Challenge is a leading student chef competition, which aims to recreate the experiences and pressures of a typical professional kitchen, whilst giving competitors the opportunity to develop accurate costing and sourcing skills within a professional setting.
The winning teams from each of the six regional heats will be invited to attend the national final at the ScotHot in Glasgow later this year. They will compete for the coveted winner’s plaque and a work experience placement with Chef Consultant Christopher Basten, who has worked for the likes of The Ritz and The Dorchester.
