College collects Christmas toys
An appeal for Christmas toys received a ready response from staff at Shrewsbury College, who donated a mountain of more than 100 brand new toys to children affected by domestic abuse.
The toys collected in the appeal will be donated to local Women’s Aid refuge centres.
“Children affected by domestic abuse often have to leave home without any of their toys,” said Shrewsbury College Payroll & Communications Coordinator Jessica Brooks, who organised the collection.
“The College wanted to make sure that these children still experienced the joy of Christmas by receiving a brand new toy. It’s a small gesture that can make their Christmas a wonderful time to remember.”
Domestic abuse will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men during their lifetime. Women's Aid is the national domestic violence charity that helps up to 250,000 women and children every year.
