Freshers’ fair boosts career prospects

Hundreds of new students at Shrewsbury College were treated to a two-day freshers’ fair this week to mark the start of college life.

The event, which was named ‘Go 4 It’ by organisers, aimed to encourage students to pursue their interests and try out new experiences in a bid to boost their career prospects.

A number of agencies, charities and community groups hosted stands at the fair offering students the opportunity to sign up for volunteering, fund-raising, sports, clubs and societies.

Sport student Harriet Beeton, 17, said: “I’ve signed up to volunteer with Crossbar Coaching one day a week, when I’m not in College. It will give me valuable experience and will help my CV to stand out.”

The event also included a climbing wall, archery, a bouncy castle and a football shoot out.
