College builds bright futures

Those who want to build a career in the construction industry are being advised that there is still time to enrol on a vocational course at Shrewsbury College.

Places are still available on Construction Start Up, Brickwork and Plastering courses, which are based at the College’s London Road campus and its Telford Construction Centre on Stafford Park.

Brickwork student Ryan Stevens, 18, scooped first prize in the Welsh heat of the SkillBuild 2012 competition earlier this year. “I’ve competed in a number of trade competitions through my course. It’s been great experience and good to be recognised.”

“Construction Start Up is available at both campuses, Brickwork at London Road and Plastering at Telford,” explained Programme Leader for Construction, Richard Corbett. “However, there is a bus service from Shrewsbury to our Construction Centre in Telford and we also offer transport from Telford to our London Road campus with various pick up points.”

If you’re interested in gaining employment in construction, or if you already work in the industry and want to back up your skills with a formal qualification, please call Richard on 01743 342452 or email richardc@shrewsbury.ac.uk.
