Start your career as a Fitness Instructor / Personal Trainer

There has never been a better time to start your career in the fitness industry career, with new gyms opening to accommodate a growing population striving to be fitter and healthier. The need for qualified professionals is greater than ever, with more people requiring motivation and instruction in achieving their personal health and fitness goals.

One route to becoming a fitness instructor is to complete a nationally recognised qualification, before finding work in a gym or leisure centre. Our part-time Certificates in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training are accredited by Active IQ, one of the UK's leading awarding bodies in the health and fitness sector. These qualifications will provide entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals, an independent public register which ensures instructors and trainers meet the industry standards.
Once you hold the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing, there are a number of complimentary Awards that you can take to widen your skills.

Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym)

This 9 week qualification provides the knowledge and skills to enable you to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective gym sessions. Experience in gym-based fitness is advisable and you’ll be required to have a degree of physical fitness, as individual participation is essential. This qualification will provide entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 2, allowing employment within the leisure and fitness industry as a gym instructor.

Level 2 Award in Instructing Kettlebell

This course will train those who already have knowledge and skills in fitness instruction, to a professionally competent level where they can plan and deliver safe and effective kettlebell exercises and training sessions. The course is internally assessed through a portfolio of written evidence and a practical assessment. Learners must have completed a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing prior to starting this course.

Level 2 Award in Studio Cycling

The aim of this qualification is to train those who already have knowledge and skills in fitness instruction, to a professionally competent level where they can design and deliver a group indoor cycling class as a 'spinning' instructor.
Learners must have completed a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing prior to starting this course.

Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Exercise to Music)

The aim of this qualification is to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective aerobics / body pump classes within a gym or health club environment.
Learners must have completed a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing prior to starting this course.

Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training

The 10 week Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training is available for people already qualified to Level 2 and allows you to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client.
