Distance Learning

Distance Learning explained

Distance Learning is a method of study designed to meet the needs of anyone unable to attend College on a regular basis. You work at your own pace, in your own time with specially prepared materials combined with help and support from your personal tutor.

How you learn

The Distance Learning materials have been professionally written and most are presented in a folder together with study guides and useful information on how to study. You learn by working through the units in the pack, each unit being broken down into topics with activities for you to complete Self- check answers are provided to enable you to test your understanding of the subject. Each unit has assignments for you to complete and send to your tutor who will mark them and give you feedback on your progress. The Computing & IT courses will require access to an Internet-enabled PC. A computer training area is available in the Learning Resources Centre specifically for use by Distance Learning students; the centre is staffed by the Distance Learning team who are available if you have any problems.
As Distance Learning is a flexible way of studying, your guided learning hours can be a mixture of personal meetings at times to suit you and your tutor and/or telephone and email advice.
Once enrolled you are entitled to use all the Learning Resource Centre facilities, these include the use of the computers in the IT Centre for completing assignments along with access to the Internet for research. The Library holds books, journals and newspapers to support your course, and for those studying a language course we offer audiocassettes and videos. We also have copies of past examination papers.
