What our Apprentices say

Aaron Hughes, 17, Brickwork Apprentice, English Construction
“I’m really enjoying doing an Apprenticeship, in particular the practical hands on side of it. I do four days with English Construction and one day at the college, which gives me a variety of learning experiences. I think doing an Apprenticeship is a great way of gaining a qualification and a job. I was nominated for the Federation of Master Builders Apprentice of the year award by English Construction and won the regional title! It came as a bit of a surprise to me, but I was really chuffed and my family were very proud of me.”

Giordana Scott, 20, Hair stylist Apprentice, Evolve Salon
“I am a Level 2 qualified hairdresser. I completed the qualification through an Apprenticeship. I love everything creative so I enjoy styling people and doing their makeup. I’d like to specialise in hair-up styling and blow drying, as I see the hair as a blank canvas that I can create a statement with, just like a piece of art. My plans are to qualify in Level 3 and become a senior stylist. I would also like to venture into makeup and nails as they are things I really enjoy and take an interest in.”

Ryan Powell, 21, Business Administration Apprentice, Croud Ltd
“I love my Apprenticeship and working at Croud! I previously went to university and trained to be a teacher, but soon realised I wanted to do something different. Some of my friends have done Apprenticeships and are now in well-paid jobs, so that made me consider this route. I get to work like-minded people and learn from experienced professionals. There are a lot of perks to working for a company like Croud too. People from the team get to travel to our other offices in London, Berlin and Sydney! I feel very lucky and I hope to stay on when I finish my Apprenticeship.”

Nathan Blase, 23, Plumbing & Heating Apprentice, Edwards Contractors Ltd
“I’m half way through my four year Apprenticeship and I’m enjoying every minute of it. Helping Russell Edwards (employer) work on his house on Restoration Man when I started was a pretty unique and great opportunity. I helped with a variety of aspects of the restoration, from building to plumbing. Before starting my Apprenticeship, I was working three different jobs, none of which were relevant to the industry I wanted to work in. Doing an Apprenticeship is a great way of getting your foot in the door for a job and to gain the skills and a qualification.”
