Sewing Part 2
You would need to be able to use a sewing machine and some prior dressmaking experience.
Who is it for?
This course is intended for those who are able to use a sewing machine, have some experience of dressmaking and have used a commercial pattern before. This evening class is for those who are looking to extend their skills in this area. Would you like to learn how to create your very own dress pattern? Then this is the course for you.
What does the course involve?
This course is for those who have some experience of dressmaking and are able to use a sewing machine already. The course would involve working on the stand (dressmakers dummy) to create a perfectly fitted shift dress. Each student would make a paper pattern and 'block' to create a toile which would fit the dressmakers dummy. They will learn how to correctly measure the form, draft a pattern, prepare the fabric, sew darts, finish seams, set sleeves in and finally finish necklines and hems correctly. The techniques involved in learning this process would enable the student to then create their own pattern for their own body shape and measurements. Once your 'block' has been created you will then learn how to adjust it to create a limitless range of dresses to fit. You will be expected to provide fabric (calico/muslin) that you should bring to your first session. The course is taught in our fashion studios where we have industrial and domestic sewing machines for you to use.
e.g. You will have to provide your own materials and fabric
Due to the nature of the subject a degree of independence is required after instructions are given whilst the tutor makes her way around the group offering individual support.
