Who is it for?

Are you interested in pursuing a career in counselling? Are you wondering if counselling is for you and do you want to understand more about the process, the theories and skills of counselling? Alternatively, you may be interested in personal development and want to learn more about yourself and how you have become the person you are as a result of your experiences in life. If this is you, then call our course advisors to enrol onto the Introduction to Counselling Skills and Personal Development. This course will give you the opportunity to meet our tutors, explore our counselling qualifications and be introduced to the main elements of counsellor's training - counselling theories and approaches, personal development and skills practice. This course will also enable you to experience our teaching style and the environment that we offer here at Shrewsbury College.

What does the course involve?

Some of the topics to be discussed and explored on the course include:

  • What do you know about counselling?
  • What is counselling?
  • Personal Development and its importance in counselling
  • Introduction to 'talk' therapies - history and examples
  • Counselling skills and active listening
  • Counselling as a career

The course will include presentations, group discussions and experiential exercises, giving students a taste of counselling training. We will explore some key skills related to counselling and therapeutic interventions with the opportunity to explore and experience different ways of working, while experiencing the Shrewsbury College teaching style and environment.

You will be required to pay your course fees at the time of enrolment, so please ensure that you bring an appropriate payment method with you, (as well as appropriate evidence if you are eligible to have any fees waived).
